Last night was the culmination of a fine softball season – the 3rd and final night the playoffs. We lost in the second round of this double elimination tourney by three runs because we played the first five innings with only eight guys. We then began battling back in the losers bracket. We smoked the number one ranked team in game one last night – they reportedly were heading to nationals so that felt good.
The second game, the semi-finals, was against a strong McRudy’s Pub team. We were ahead by one going into the bottom of the seventh when their lumberjack of a power hitter was up with the score tied. We intentionally walked him to get to the next base hit batter because he blasted his first few at bats over the fence. The scared little on deck batter then roped a perfect hit down the first base line so the runner at third scored to end it. If we would have won, we would have had to beat the next team, the team that barely beat us with 8 guys, not just once but twice. That would have been a long quadruple header, but I think we could have done it with the players we had actually show up last night.
Well, with the season over, now we just have to come up with something to do every Wednesday night – I’m thinking it may become poker night…

no doubt, that would’ve made all the difference if first base were only 25ft away from the plate.
