Have you ever heard of Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon? It is a theory that everyone who has ever appeared in a film is linked to Footloose Star Kevin Bacon by sharing cast members.
My idea is to create a site where you could enter your URL or weblog name and see how many degrees (links) from an A list blogger Kottke you are. I think I would call it Six Degrees of Kottke or something similar. I’m sure there is a way to take the data from the blogdex database to do it, but it would better to have my own DB because of the heavy demand. I know I’m not the first to think of this, and there are similar sources for this type of info out there. I’m still trying to wrap my head around the idea, but I’m hoping it is possible.
To clarify: If Kottke links to your site, you would have a Kottke Degree of 1. If Kottke links to someone who links to you, your Kottke degree would be 2. Get it?
