I never thought I’d be a big proponent of a new Twins stadium, but an evening watching the Riverbats outdoors makes me wish the Twins had at least a retractable dome. Riverbats baseball is better than going to a Twins game in so many ways. To name a few… The most expensive tickets are $6.50. Parking is free. Beer is cheaper. They pick a player on the other team who is labeled the Beer Batter, and if he strikes out, beer the rest of the inning is half off (That’s $1.50!). You get to sit up close. It’s a mile from home, for me anyway. It’s halfway good baseball, consisting mostly of good college players. Did I mention it’s outdoors?

Another good thing about smaller, local baseball games….less traffic. Moreover, at FSU, a group of fans calling themselves THE ANIMALS (www.sectionb.com) made going to the game almost a comedic event.

Aside from the playoffs last year, I’ve never had as much fun at a Twins game as I’d have at a Saints or Redhawks (Fargo team) game. They’re more creative with marketing and cater to fans much better than a major league team. But what it really ends up coming down to is watching ball outside. Well that and the cheap beer. Until they get a new stadium, or a retractable roof, the Twins are gonna have to live with limited ticket sales during the regular season.
