I know I’ve been all about music and macs lately, but I’ve just come across another cool product. The The iTrip sits atop the iPod and attaches to the headphone jack, and transmits the iPods signal to any FM stereo, at any frequency. It doesn’t require batteries, but draws its power directly from the iPod, and can still be charged while the iTrip plugged in – it can spin out of the way. Pre-orders are now being taken. I think it’s priced right, and is a must have for ipod owners.

That’s pretty cool and all but I ain’t got an iPod (yet). Besides, I really prefer a direct line-in connection… problem is that my car stereo doesn’t have one of those so I use a cassette tape adapter, which is still sub-par.
The downside of FM transmitters is that if you’re going on a road trip you’ve got to keep changing the channel you’re using as you pass within range of (newly) local radio stations. If you’re driving 200+ miles you’ll have to do that a handful of times, which really bites if the frequency adjustment on the transmitter is a tiny wheel you adjust with your thumbnail.
At least the iTrip has some magical mojo for changing the frequency… and no need for batteries. Plus it’s very swank. 🙂
