For the second time in as many weeks the air conditioning crapped out in our computer room at work. The temperature near the door was 93 degrees and noticeably hotter as you enter further into the room.
Our older RAID array (aka BMW), which stores some 300,000 unique photos and consisting of dozens and dozens of drives, had heat alarms blaring understandably. Surprisingly though, our newer servers didn’t skip a beat. I suppose those PIII’s were used to the heat.
Our first solution, which was put in place a few months ago, was to put a barn fan into one of the walls to vent the heat. We are so high tech here it’s scary. Did I mention our new backup generator is a treadmill and a cross-country runner hooked up to a car battery? It’s state of the art.
