SearchApp Released (again)

Author: admin | Filed under: Objective Labs

I wrote tiny application, and I thought I’d share it with ya’ll. It’s called SearchApp. It’s basically a dialog that points search terms toward your favorite search engine. I use it in conjunction with LaunchBar. I hit cmd-space-se – then type in my search and hit return. It will launch your browser if need be, or open the search in a new window if a browser is already running. It also has an editor so you can add your own search engines.

Update:

I’ve released an update to SearchApp that fixes the previous bug reported by MH (and a few emails). I’ve also added a clear text box button ala the finders search box – it’s pictured.

  1. Erm… the file type thingy is busted so I get a 3.2 kb file called searchapp.php. Otherwise I’d be glad to check it out…

But wait, I grabbed it from webentourage and got a good file. It’s pretty spiffy.

Merriam Webster defines “spiffy” as “fine looking” and “smart.”

Perhaps you could make the URL field bigger in the Edit window.

Here’s a bug: Edit the list, then cancel or apply (closing the edit window), then switch to another application and back. It will create a new edit window which is disconnected from the app.

  2. Crap. Oh, well… it only happens when you edit your list, and how often will you be doing that. Maybe I’ll fix it after my vacation. (I already have a 1.1 version in the works with some interface tweaks)

One is a search clear button like in mail. The other is to have the option of making the app hide/quite/minimize itself after you hit search.

I really don’t know why I’m bothering because there are about 10 apps out there that do similar things.

  3. Thanks Tim!

But, why didn’t you add this url to SearchApp so you could search SaltedWound!!!

  5. i mean mostly harmless.. my bad.. its still early. i remembered the ‘most’ part at least.

  6. Man! How did you make that cancel button. It’s not part of the standard apple stuff is it? I tried like a hundred times to come up with that. Impressive!
