Because it’s customary to talk about MarchFirst (the company – er used to be) on march first — here’s a link to the top 100 dot-com blunders. Take special note of number 3. Here is the gist:

E-business consultancy MarchFirst launches a national branding campaign in June 2000. The campaign’s main goal, executives say, is not to bring in new business, but to enable them to recruit employees. Price tag: $50 million. The company has since laid off 2,100 employees.

I would also like to add, out of business. This guy had to mention on his resume that what happened to the company’s stock wasn’t his fault. I think the long list of laid off bloggers was significantly due to MarchFirst.

MarchFirst – the demise

An amazingly coincidental thing happened today as I was searching google for information on how to pull HTML formatting information out of a cocoa NSTextView and NSScrollView in Project Builder for OS X using in objective-c. Google pointed me to a July 1998 article on how to create a HTML editor for Rhapsody or OS X developer release that was almost perfect, but unfortunately it was for a 4 year old alpha environment that has changed dramatically. (Rhapsody is Mac OS X before it was really Mac OS X – see zygote OS X) I think to myself, “I wonder if he re-wrote this article after OS X was released”, and to my delight he did, but the coincidental part is that he did it less than an hour before I was looking for it!

I was contacted by MacWorld magazine last week. They asked if they could include BlogApp 1.1 on the CD that they will ship with the May Issue. I guess I’ll let them. : )

On second thought…

I’ve been posting to this weblog for a length of time approaching 2 years. I’ve at times lost focus on what I want to accomplish with this my weblog adventure. I’ve slacked and posted the obligatory popular link from Day Pop or Kottke. I’ve posted the trite “I don’t have anything to post about” post, but from now on I will do better, for I have a weblog creed. This creed, Write a Better Weblog written by Dennis Mahoney for A List Apart, should be – in my opinion – required reading for anyone just starting a weblog, or anyone who has been blogging for years. It explains exactly why sites like LYD, Kottke, and Fury are so popular. Web readers require pith (read: significance, importance).

Time to retrench, everyone

Well, I sold my camera for more than I bought it for (and more than a new one costs new – but he got extra memory and a polarized filter), but I’ve had it for over a year. So I went to best buy and picked up a Canon Elph 110. It’s small, about the size of a deck of cards for double-oh-seven sakes. I thought I wouldn’t like holding it, because I had trouble with my Sony and my caffeine induced shakes, but the metal case makes for a firm feel in your hand – the Elph is easier to hold steady than that big hunk of Sony plastic. I like it, so far. It’s a good thing I don’t have any kitties, because look what happened to Kari when she got a digital camera.

I’m selling my Sony DSC-P50 2.1 mega-pixel digital camera on ebay. I want a smaller camera, so I’m gonna pony up for a Canon Elph S300.
